BINTULU – The Most Active Reader Award 2026 was presented at ParkCity Mall Bintulu on 25 April, in conjunction with the Jom Baca Bersama 10 Minute 2026 programme.
The recognition highlighted individuals who have shown strong commitment to cultivating reading as a daily practice, reinforcing the importance of literacy in building a knowledgeable and competitive society.
The ceremony was officiated by Mr Latif bin Upit, Senior Manager of the Landscape and Public Facilities Division (LPA), alongside Mr Affendi bin Iezara, Manager of the BDA Public Library.
Their presence underscored the significance of the award in encouraging consistent engagement with reading among both adults and teenagers.
Recipients were divided into two categories, Bumiputera and Non-Bumiputera, reflecting the inclusive nature of the programme.
Each honouree received RM100 in cash, an appreciation plaque, and an e-certificate as formal recognition of their dedication.
In the Bumiputera category, adult recipients included Zara Zulaikha Tan Abdullah, Mazlena binti Hassan, Adelyn anak Sipu, Siti Hawa Nur Balqis binti Mohd Nizam, and Siti Khadijah binti Othman.
Among teenagers, awards were given to Mohammad Hamdanwie bin Bakawi, Katie Vyonniey anak John, Rostini Mona, Mohammad Adam Hermy bin Nazri, and Nursyamira Dalisha binti Mohd Hafiszul.
The Non-Bumiputera category saw adult awards presented to Angela Low Siew Chin, Tan Yien Han, and Wong Ka Yin.
Teen recipients were Angelina Sii Ai Lyn and Samuel Yong King Hua. These individuals were recognised for their perseverance in maintaining reading as a central part of their daily lives.
Organisers expressed their gratitude to ParkCity Mall Bintulu for its cooperation and support, which played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the event.
The collaboration between public institutions and private organisations was highlighted as an important factor in promoting literacy initiatives across the community.
The award ceremony was not only a celebration of individual achievement but also a broader effort to encourage society to embrace reading as a lifelong habit.
By recognising dedicated readers, the programme aims to inspire others to follow suit, thereby strengthening the culture of literacy in Sarawak.
