SIBU – The Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD) has stepped up its efforts to maintain public safety and order through an integrated operation to prevent crime, carried out overnight between 2 and 3 May 2026.
The operation, which ran from 10.00 pm to 3.00 am, mobilised 12 officers and 61 personnel from multiple divisions, including Traffic, Criminal Investigation, Narcotics, and Crime Prevention.
District Police Chief YDH ACP Azari Bin Miskon was present to oversee the enforcement, particularly at roadblocks set up along Jalan Channel and Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.
Checks were conducted at several key locations, including Jalan Awang Ramli Amit and Jalan Bujang Suntong. Police inspected 332 vehicles and 394 individuals during the operation.
As a result, 87 summonses were issued for various traffic violations, reflecting the authorities’ commitment to tackling road offences alongside crime prevention.
Two men were arrested for separate traffic-related offences. One was detained for performing a dangerous wheelie stunt on the road, with investigations proceeding under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
In another case, a 16-year-old was apprehended for using a false registration number, an offence investigated under Section 108 of the same Act.
In addition to traffic enforcement, police also made arrests linked to criminal and narcotics activities. Among those detained was a local man found in possession of drugs suspected to be methamphetamine, who later tested positive for drug use.
The operation extended to entertainment premises, with a raid conducted on a venue along Jalan Lau King Howe. The establishment was found to be operating without a valid licence.
A male employee was taken into custody, and equipment from the premises was seized for further investigation under the Entertainment Ordinance 2000.
Authorities confirmed that the operation was carried out smoothly without any untoward incidents. Police stressed that such integrated enforcement exercises will continue periodically to ensure community safety and strengthen public confidence in law enforcement.
The initiative reflects the broader strategy of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to combine traffic enforcement, crime prevention, and narcotics control under a unified approach.
By targeting multiple areas of concern in one coordinated operation, the Sibu IPD aims to reduce risks to public safety and maintain order across the district.
