KOTA SAMARAHAN – A kitchen fire incident was reported at a residence along Lorong 4B4, Jalan Datuk Mohammad Musa, Kota Samarahan, on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.
The emergency was swiftly contained before the arrival of the fire brigade, preventing further damage and ensuring no casualties.
The Kota Samarahan Fire Operations Centre (PGO) received a distress call from the homeowner, Puan Joana, who alerted authorities to the blaze.
Upon arrival, the fire team was informed by the operations commander that the flames had already been extinguished by a neighbour using a fire extinguisher.
As a result, the fire brigade did not need to conduct suppression operations but instead carried out monitoring duties to ensure no residual fire hazards remained.
The operation was led by PBK I, Lydia Binti Mohd Sarkawi, who confirmed that the situation was under control and no injuries were reported.
The incident highlights the importance of community vigilance and preparedness in responding to emergencies.
The neighbour’s quick action with a fire extinguisher prevented the fire from spreading and potentially causing greater damage.
JBPM Sarawak has reminded the public of the need to maintain strong fire safety measures at home. The department advises households to keep fire extinguishers readily available and ensure they are in working condition, as these tools can serve as vital first-line defences in emergencies.
Authorities continue to stress that early intervention and proper safety equipment can significantly reduce risks, protect lives, and minimise property damage.
