KUCHING – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, welcomed a courtesy call from the German Ambassador to Malaysia, H.E. Silke Riecken-Daerr, on Thursday, 7 May 2026, at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi.
The meeting was part of a wider programme involving a German delegation of nearly 20 companies, who visited Sarawak to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic ties.
The discussions centred on potential cooperation in renewable energy, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and infrastructure development.
Germany already maintains a strong investment presence in Peninsular Malaysia, and the visit was seen as a strategic step towards expanding collaboration into Sarawak.
The delegation’s interest reflects Sarawak’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation and sustainable development, particularly in sectors aligned with global economic trends.
As part of their itinerary, the delegation toured semiconductor-related companies, including XFAB and SMD, to gain deeper insights into Sarawak’s industrial ecosystem.
These visits highlighted the state’s potential in advanced technology and manufacturing, areas where German expertise and investment could play a significant role.
The Premier of Sarawak emphasised the importance of international partnerships in driving the state’s economic growth.
He noted that collaboration with Germany could bring valuable expertise, particularly in renewable energy and AI, which are key components of Sarawak’s long-term development strategy.
Also present during the courtesy call were Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak II, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn; State Financial Secretary, Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar; and Executive Director of the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MGCC), Hannes Richard Otto Farlock. Their participation underscored the significance of the visit and the potential for future cooperation.
The engagement between Sarawak and Germany is expected to pave the way for new investment opportunities, enhance knowledge exchange, and foster stronger business partnerships.
By positioning itself as a destination for international collaboration, Sarawak aims to attract global investors while advancing its economic transformation agenda.
