Malaysia and Singapore have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties through a broad range of strategic initiatives aimed at ensuring regional stability and prosperity.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong for a bilateral discussion that focused on accelerating joint projects and enhancing cooperation in emerging sectors.
The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration built on mutual interests and the well-being of both nations’ citizens.
Among the key priorities highlighted was the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), which both governments are working to expedite.
The initiative is expected to boost cross-border trade, investment, and employment opportunities while positioning Johor and Singapore as a hub for regional economic growth.
The leaders also reviewed progress on the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, a major infrastructure project connecting Johor Bahru and Singapore.
Both sides expressed determination to ensure the RTS Link becomes operational by the end of 2026, a milestone that will significantly improve mobility and strengthen people-to-people ties.
Energy cooperation featured prominently in the discussions, with Malaysia and Singapore agreeing to expand collaboration in renewable energy and the ASEAN Power Grid.
The two countries also explored deeper engagement in carbon capture and storage (CCS), reflecting their shared commitment to addressing climate change and advancing sustainable solutions.
Maritime boundary negotiations were another focal point, with Malaysia emphasising the importance of constructive dialogue guided by international law.
Issues relating to water supply, airspace management, and the Kuala Lumpur Flight Information Region (KL FIR) were also discussed, with both sides stressing the need for mutual respect and understanding in resolving these matters.
Beyond bilateral concerns, the meeting touched on wider regional and global developments. Malaysia reiterated its call for a lasting ceasefire in the Middle East, the safeguarding of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and ASEAN’s continued role in maintaining stability and protecting global supply chains.
The discussions reflect the enduring partnership between Malaysia and Singapore, two neighbours whose cooperation is vital for ASEAN’s collective progress.
By focusing on economic integration, sustainable energy, and constructive diplomacy, both countries aim to strengthen resilience and ensure prosperity for future generations.
