KUCHING – A total of 43 foreign nationals were detained during a series of immigration enforcement operations conducted across Kuching between 6 and 7 May 2026.
The raids, which began early in the morning and continued until late at night, were carried out by officers from the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division.
The first operation took place at the LKIM Tanjong Bako Fish Landing Jetty, where enforcement officers identified several foreigners believed to have been residing in the area for an extended period.
With assistance from the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM), several individuals were detained for allegedly lacking valid travel documents or passports.
Later in the day, officers inspected two houses under construction in Kampung Jaya Bakti and Kampung Sungai Batu.
The inspection revealed foreigners suspected of working as construction labourers without proper documentation.
Those detained were subsequently taken to the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division Office for further investigation.
Night operations focused on residential and commercial areas, including workers’ housing and rented rooms at Lee Ling Commercial Centre, Pines Square Batu Kawa, and Taman Hui Sing. These raids targeted foreigners believed to be residing or working illegally in the state.
The Malaysian Immigration Department Sarawak has reiterated its commitment to intensifying enforcement efforts to ensure compliance with immigration laws.
Officials emphasised that such operations are necessary to safeguard public order and maintain lawful entry and employment practices among foreign nationals.
Authorities also highlighted that enforcement activities are part of a broader strategy to address irregular migration and protect the welfare of local communities.
By conducting regular checks at workplaces, housing areas, and public facilities, the department aims to deter violations and strengthen overall security.
The detained individuals will undergo further legal procedures in accordance with the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The department has assured that all actions taken are consistent with established regulations and carried out professionally to uphold the integrity of immigration enforcement in Sarawak.
