MUKAH – Police in Mukah have arrested a 28-year-old local man on suspicion of drug possession during an operation at the Mukah Airport parking area.
The arrest was carried out by the Narcotics Crimes Investigation Division of Mukah District Police Headquarters on 8 May 2026 at around 3.30pm.
Officers acted on information received and detained the suspect while he was seated in the driver’s seat of a four-wheel vehicle.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a clear straw tube containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu, with an estimated gross weight of 0.36 grams.
The suspect and the seized items were taken to Mukah IPD for further investigation. Subsequent urine tests confirmed the suspect was positive for both amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect admitted ownership of the drugs found during the inspection.
Police confirmed that the suspect, who works as a cleaner, has been remanded for three days until 12 May 2026 to assist with the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries serious penalties for possession of controlled substances.
Mukah District Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal bin Alias stated that the operation reflects the police’s ongoing commitment to tackling drug abuse and trafficking in the district.
He urged members of the public to provide any information related to drug activities by contacting the Mukah IPD hotline at 084-871222.
Authorities emphasised that community cooperation is vital in combating drug-related crimes, which continue to pose a threat to public safety and wellbeing.
The police reiterated their determination to intensify enforcement efforts and ensure offenders are brought to justice.
The arrest highlights the persistence of drug-related issues in rural districts, with law enforcement agencies maintaining vigilance through targeted operations and public engagement.
