BINTULU – The Civil Defence Force (APM) in Bintulu has distributed emergency food assistance to victims of a squatter house fire that occurred in Sungai Plan, Muzako, Jalan Kidurong, on 8 May 2026.
Ten sets of Starter Food Kits (KMP) were handed out to affected families on Saturday, 9 May, as part of immediate relief efforts to ease the burden faced by those impacted.
The distribution was carried out by APM Bintulu members, who ensured that all victims received support.
The fire incident involved a block of five-door squatter houses and a Perodua Kancil vehicle, which was almost completely destroyed.
A nearby house sustained approximately 10 per cent damage. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported during the incident.
APM Bintulu highlighted that the provision of food kits is part of its wider commitment to community welfare, ensuring that victims of disasters receive timely assistance.
The unit’s operational motto, “Ready Quickly with Integrity”, reflects its dedication to rapid response and integrity in service.
Residents are reminded that APM Bintulu can be contacted directly through its 24-hour hotline at 086-318-233, or via the national emergency line 999, for any urgent situations involving fire, medical, police or civil defence services.
The incident underscores the vulnerability of squatter settlements, where fires can spread quickly due to the close proximity of structures and limited safety measures.
Community leaders have urged residents to remain vigilant and adopt preventive practices to reduce risks.
Emergency response teams in Sarawak continue to strengthen their preparedness, with APM playing a crucial role in disaster management and relief distribution.
The swift action taken in Bintulu demonstrates the importance of coordinated efforts between authorities and the public in ensuring safety and recovery.
As the victims begin to rebuild, the support provided through food aid serves as an essential step in helping families stabilise after the loss of property.
The incident also highlights the importance of community solidarity and the role of civil defence in safeguarding lives and livelihoods across Sarawak.
