BINTULU – A cobra was safely captured by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Bintulu after residents reported its presence outside a home.
On 12 May 2026, the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received an emergency call from the public concerning a snake spotted along a pathway near a residential property.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed the reptile was a cobra measuring approximately one metre in length.
The APM team acted swiftly, using pinning techniques to secure the snake. The operation was completed without incident, and the area was declared safe for residents. No injuries were reported among the public or personnel involved.
Officials highlighted that cobras, being venomous, pose significant risks when found in populated areas. Their presence near homes can lead to dangerous encounters, particularly if residents attempt to handle them without professional assistance.
The Civil Defence Force continues to advise the public to avoid direct contact with snakes and to report sightings immediately.
Wildlife-related emergencies have become increasingly common across Sarawak, with snakes, crocodiles, and other animals entering residential zones.
Experts attribute this trend to environmental changes and habitat disturbances, which drive wildlife closer to human settlements.
APM Bintulu reiterated its commitment to community safety, guided by its operational motto, “Ready Fast with Integrity”.
Officials also emphasised the importance of public cooperation, noting that early reporting allows rescue teams to act quickly and prevent accidents.
Residents are reminded that assistance is available around the clock. For emergencies, the public can contact APM Bintulu via the national emergency line 999 or the district hotline at 086-318233.
The agency continues to stress its message: “There’s a Disaster, Call APM,” underscoring the importance of vigilance and immediate reporting in safeguarding lives and property.
