KUCHING – A narcotics operation carried out by the Kuching District Police Headquarters has led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man and the confiscation of drugs valued at approximately RM2,700.
The arrest took place on 12 May 2026 at around 2.45 pm behind a restaurant in Jalan Song, Kuching. Officers from the Narcotic Crimes Investigation Division detained the suspect after intelligence gathering and surveillance efforts.
During the search, police discovered substances believed to be ketamine weighing 8 grams and liquid cannabis amounting to 42.5 grams.
The estimated street value of the seized drugs was placed at RM2,700. Initial urine screening conducted on the suspect returned positive for ketamine use.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect had no prior criminal record. The case is currently being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
If convicted, the offence carries a mandatory prison sentence of between two and five years, along with a punishment of not less than three and not more than nine strokes of the cane.
The suspect has been remanded for four days, from 14 to 17 May 2026, under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist with further investigations.
Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu stated that the success of the operation was the result of continuous intelligence work and cooperation from the public.
He emphasised that the Royal Malaysia Police will not compromise with any party involved in drug trafficking or possession.
“Drug possession, distribution or protection of such activities is a serious offence under the law. The Narcotics Crime Investigation Department remains committed to combating drugs to safeguard the current and future generations. Drugs are the nation’s number one enemy,” he said.
The police have urged members of the public to continue providing information to assist in tackling drug-related crimes.
