KUCHING – The spirit of road safety and community unity took centre stage during the “Let’s Share The Road: Fun Ride” held in conjunction with the Kuching Car Free Morning (KCFM), which once again attracted strong participation from cyclists and residents across the city.
The Fun Ride carried a deeper meaning this time as it was dedicated to the late Ken Yeo, a well-known veteran cyclist in Kuching. The dedication served as a reminder of his contributions to the local cycling community and his long-standing passion for promoting cycling as a healthy and responsible lifestyle. Participants also expressed their respect through a tribute message that emphasised the importance of safety on the road for all cyclists.
The programme was flagged off by Yang Berusaha Encik Rudzaimeir bin Malek, Deputy Director of the Corporate Services Department of Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara. The event also received strong support from Yang Berusaha Encik Irawan Sudarsono, President of the Kuching Division Cycling Association, who played a key role in coordinating the cycling activities and encouraging community involvement.
Cyclists from various backgrounds joined the ride, turning the city streets into a safe and vibrant space free from vehicles. The atmosphere reflected strong cooperation between organisers, participants, and volunteers, all working together to promote the message of “sharing the road” responsibly between cyclists, motorists, and pedestrians.
Beyond the cycling activity, the KCFM programme also featured community engagement activities including the “Glamping In The City” competition, which added a festive element to the morning. Participants showcased creativity and teamwork, further strengthening the community spirit that KCFM is known for.
Organisers highlighted that the Fun Ride is not only a recreational event but also an educational platform to raise awareness about road safety. The message was clear throughout the programme: every road user has a responsibility to ensure safety and respect while sharing public spaces.
Winners of the glamping competition were also announced during the event, adding excitement to the morning. However, the focus remained firmly on unity, safety, and appreciation for community figures who have contributed to cycling culture in Kuching.
As the event concluded, organisers extended their appreciation to all participants and supporters who made the programme a success. They also confirmed that preparations are underway for the next Kuching Car Free Morning edition in June 2026, promising an even stronger focus on community participation and road safety awareness.
