KUCHING – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Kuching has intensified patrols and monitoring in accident-prone areas as part of Ops Hari Raya Aidiladha (HRAA) and Gawai Dayak 2026, leading to the confiscation of a luxury vehicle in Matang.
During one of the patrols, officers stopped a Toyota Vellfire for inspection. Checks revealed that the vehicle was operating with an expired motor vehicle licence (LKM) and lapsed insurance coverage.
In line with existing legal provisions, JPJ officers proceeded with confiscation measures. The enforcement action highlights JPJ Sarawak’s firm stance on ensuring compliance with road safety regulations.
Authorities stressed that vehicles without valid licences and insurance pose risks not only to drivers and passengers but also to other road users.
Ops HRAA and Gawai Dayak 2026 are being carried out across Sarawak to strengthen road safety during the festive season.
The operations combine enforcement against traffic offences with proactive monitoring in high-risk areas, aiming to reduce accidents and improve compliance among motorists.
JPJ Sarawak has reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety through both enforcement and awareness campaigns.
The department reminded drivers to ensure that their LKM, insurance policies, and related documents are valid before taking to the road.
The confiscation of the Toyota Vellfire serves as a reminder that JPJ will not hesitate to act against offenders.
By stepping up patrols during festive periods, the department aims to deter negligence and encourage responsible driving behaviour. Public cooperation remains crucial in supporting JPJ’s efforts.
Motorists are urged to carry out regular checks on their vehicles and documentation, particularly during festive seasons when traffic volumes are higher and accident risks increase.
The department’s enforcement drive underscores its dual role in regulation and community protection, ensuring that Sarawak’s roads remain safe for all.
