25 Summons Issued in Miri Police Anti-Drink Driving Operation

MIRI – Police in Miri have issued 25 summonses during a special traffic operation targeting drink driving and related offences. The enforcement exercise, known as Op Mabuk, was conducted by the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri).

The operation began at 11.00 pm on 30 May 2026 and concluded at 3.30 am the following morning. Led by a senior officer and supported by eight members of the traffic division, the initiative focused on the Miri-Airport Road, an area identified as a hotspot for late-night traffic offences.

According to Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee bin Abdullah, the operation inspected 110 individuals, comprising 85 men and 25 women, along with 93 vehicles.

Officers detected a range of violations, including driving without a valid licence, expired road tax, failure to display the probationary “P” sticker, and illegal exhaust modifications.

One 27-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. A breath test conducted using Screening Device 2 (SD2) confirmed alcohol in his system.

The suspect was taken to Miri Hospital’s Forensic Department, where a blood sample was collected for further investigation.

Police stated that if convicted, the suspect could face imprisonment of up to two years, a fine between RM10,000 and RM30,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for two years.

ACP Mohd Farhan stressed that the police will not tolerate individuals who endanger themselves and others by driving under the influence of alcohol.

The operation reflects ongoing efforts by law enforcement to reduce road accidents and promote compliance with traffic laws.

Drink driving remains a significant concern in Malaysia, with authorities highlighting its role in serious and fatal collisions.

The police chief reiterated that such operations will continue, underscoring the commitment of IPD Miri to safeguard road users and maintain community safety.
