KUCHING – The Class B2 Driving Licence Assistance Programme for the Batu Kawah constituency continued to gain momentum on 21 June 2026, with 343 participants successfully registering and passing the initial screening conducted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak.
The programme, held at Sekolah Menengah Min Lit Batu Kawah, was attended by the Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, YB Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also the Assemblyman for N.14 Batu Kawah.
He congratulated the candidates for their commitment and highlighted the importance of the initiative in promoting safer and more responsible road use.
Participants undertook the Part 1 Test, a mandatory stage in the licensing process, before progressing to subsequent requirements.
The assistance programme aims to provide eligible individuals with the opportunity to obtain a motorcycle licence legally, thereby improving compliance with traffic laws and fostering a culture of accountability among road users.
Dr Sim emphasised that the initiative reflects the government’s dedication to empowering mobility and enhancing community well-being.
He noted that by equipping residents with proper training and certification, the programme contributes to reducing risks on the road while supporting broader social development goals.
The event also showcased strong collaboration between government agencies, elected representatives, and training institutions.
Present were Sarawak JPJ Licence Assistance Programme Coordinator Tuan Mohd Elly bin Arbi and MKM Driving Institute Manager’s representative Miss Chung Hui Min.
Their involvement underscored the collective effort to ensure the programme’s smooth and effective implementation.
Community leaders have praised the initiative for its role in supporting young people and low-income groups who may otherwise struggle to afford licensing costs.
By removing barriers, the programme not only enhances road safety but also opens up opportunities for employment and personal independence, particularly for those reliant on motorcycles for daily transport.
The Batu Kawah Driving Licence Assistance Programme is part of a wider push to improve road safety standards across Sarawak.
Authorities believe that equipping more riders with legal licences will help reduce accidents and instil greater awareness of traffic regulations.
As the programme continues, participants are expected to complete further stages of training and testing, ultimately contributing to a safer and more disciplined road environment.
The initiative stands as a practical example of how government support can directly benefit communities while reinforcing the importance of unity and cooperation in achieving shared goals.
