KUCHING – The Class B2 Driving Licence Assistance Programme for the Tupong constituency reached a new milestone on 20 June 2026, as 807 participants entered the practical training phase at the Al Abyad Mosque compound in Matang Jaya.
The initiative, designed to help eligible individuals obtain motorcycle licences legally, has moved into Part 2 and Part 3 training (KPP02 and KPP03).
This follows the successful completion of the Part 1 Exam (KPP01) by all candidates on 16 May 2026, also held at the same venue.
State Assemblyman for N.06 Tupong, YB Dato Fazzrudin bin Abdul Rahman, attended the session to observe the training and interact with participants.
His presence highlighted his ongoing support for programmes that directly benefit the community, particularly in mobility and road law compliance.
The large turnout reflects strong demand for accessible licensing opportunities. By providing structured training and guidance, the programme aims to produce safer, more responsible road users while reducing the number of unlicensed riders.
Programme Coordinator for JPJ Sarawak, Tuan Mohd Elly bin Arbi, and Cangiran Driving Institute Manager, Miss Chung Hui Min, were also present.
Their involvement demonstrated the close cooperation between government agencies, elected representatives, and training institutions in ensuring smooth implementation.
The assistance programme has been praised for its inclusivity, offering opportunities to young people and lower-income groups who may otherwise face barriers in obtaining licences.
By equipping participants with proper training, the initiative not only enhances road safety but also supports employment and independence, particularly for those who rely on motorcycles for daily transport.
Dato Fazzrudin emphasised that such programmes are vital in empowering communities and improving overall well-being.
He noted that legal licensing helps instil discipline among riders, reduces risks on the road, and contributes to Sarawak’s broader development goals.
The Tupong programme is part of a wider state effort to expand road safety initiatives and strengthen compliance with traffic regulations.
With over 800 participants now progressing through practical training, the impact of the scheme is expected to be significant in shaping safer road practices across the constituency.
As the candidates continue their training, the programme stands as a testament to Sarawak’s commitment to community empowerment and responsible mobility.
