DEBAK – A groundbreaking ceremony was held on 19 June 2026 to mark the start of the farm road upgrading project in Suri Tengah, Debak.
The initiative, implemented under the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), is expected to significantly improve access to agricultural areas for local residents.
The project, managed by the Public Works Department (JKR) Betong Division, will run for five months, beginning on 19 June and scheduled for completion on 18 November 2026.
Once finished, the upgraded roads will provide safer and more comfortable routes for villagers travelling to their farms.
Improved road conditions are expected to ease the transportation of agricultural produce to markets, thereby supporting the economic growth of rural communities.
Local farmers will benefit from reduced travel time and better connectivity, which in turn enhances productivity and income opportunities.
Officials noted that the project reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure.
By investing in farm roads, authorities aim to raise the standard of living in rural areas while ensuring that communities have reliable access to essential facilities.
The upgrading of farm roads in Suri Tengah is part of a broader strategy to modernise infrastructure across Sarawak.
Similar projects have been rolled out in other districts, with the goal of reducing disparities between urban and rural areas.
Community leaders welcomed the initiative, highlighting its importance in sustaining agricultural activities and improving daily life for residents.
They emphasised that better infrastructure not only supports farming but also contributes to wider social and economic development.
The BDDA programme continues to play a vital role in driving rural progress, with projects like the Suri Tengah farm road upgrade serving as tangible examples of how government investment can directly benefit local communities.
As work progresses, residents look forward to the completion of the project, which will provide lasting improvements to mobility, safety, and economic opportunities in the Bukit Saban constituency.
