KUCHING – The latest edition of Kuching Car Free Morning drew strong participation from residents and visitors, creating a lively atmosphere that highlighted the city’s commitment to health and community engagement.
Organised by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), the event encouraged people to embrace recreational activities in public spaces, with families and friends taking part in walking, cycling, skating, and other outdoor pursuits.
The cheerful mood throughout the morning reflected the growing enthusiasm for active lifestyles among the city’s population.
A major highlight of the programme was the Run Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat, which featured three race categories – 10km, 5km, and 3km.
The run attracted 1,898 participants, all of whom successfully completed their respective distances. The strong turnout was seen as a positive indicator of public interest in fitness and wellness initiatives.
DBKU extended congratulations to all runners and expressed appreciation to the agencies, strategic partners, volunteers, and staff who contributed to the success of the event.
Their collective effort ensured smooth organisation and reinforced the spirit of collaboration that underpins Kuching Car Free Morning.
The initiative is part of a broader national agenda to promote healthier living and encourage communities to make better use of urban spaces.
By temporarily closing roads to vehicles, the programme allows residents to reclaim the city’s streets for recreational and social activities, fostering a sense of belonging and shared responsibility.
Officials noted that the event not only supports physical health but also strengthens community ties. The opportunity for residents to gather in a safe, car-free environment has proven to be an effective way of encouraging social interaction and reinforcing Kuching’s image as a community-friendly city.
The campaign has steadily gained momentum since its introduction, with each edition attracting larger crowds and more diverse activities.
DBKU has emphasised that the success of the programme depends on continued public participation and cooperation, urging residents to maintain the spirit of healthy living and active engagement.
With the next Kuching Car Free Morning scheduled for July, organisers are optimistic that participation will continue to grow.
The event remains a key platform for promoting wellness, environmental awareness, and community unity in the city.
