SRI AMAN – Fire and Rescue Department personnel successfully captured a snake at Jalan Bungkang, Sri Aman, on Sunday afternoon following a call from a local resident.
The incident, reported at 1.35 pm on 21 June 2026, was categorised as a special service operation. A team from BBP Sri Aman, led by Operation Commander PBK I (TBK I) Edwin Jonani, was dispatched to the scene with one EMRS vehicle (BMY 4446).
Upon arrival, the team discovered a black snake in the gravel area behind the complainant’s house. Equipped with personal protective gear, the commander used tongs and a snake catcher to safely secure the reptile.
The snake was placed in a sack before being released back into its natural habitat away from human settlements.
No other agencies were involved in the operation, and no senior officers were present at the site. The team confirmed that the area was safe before returning to the station.
Snake encounters are a recurring challenge in Sarawak, particularly in residential areas near forests and rivers.
The Fire and Rescue Department frequently responds to such calls, ensuring that potentially dangerous reptiles are removed without harm to residents or the animals themselves.
Officials continue to remind the public not to attempt handling snakes on their own, as improper action can lead to serious injury.
Residents are urged to immediately contact emergency services if they encounter wildlife near their homes.
This latest operation in Sri Aman highlights the department’s efficiency and professionalism in managing wildlife-related emergencies.
