The operation, conducted at around 10.45pm by officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of Kuching District Police Headquarters, led to the detention of local men aged between 23 and 29.

Subsequent checks revealed substances believed to be ketamine weighing approximately 15.5 grams, with an estimated street value of RM3,100.

Initial urine screenings carried out on the suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. Authorities confirmed that none of the men had prior criminal records.

The suspects have been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for four days, from 27 to 30 June, to assist with ongoing investigations.

The case is being pursued under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, offenders face imprisonment of between two and five years, along with three to nine strokes of the cane.

District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu stated that the arrests were the result of continuous intelligence work and cooperation from the public.

He stressed that the Royal Malaysia Police will not compromise with any parties involved in drug possession or distribution, describing such activities as serious offences under Malaysian law.

The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking, highlighting the importance of protecting both current and future generations.

Drugs, the department emphasised, remain the nation’s number one threat to public health and safety. Authorities have urged members of the public to continue providing information that could assist in tackling drug-related crimes.
