Deputy Digital Minister and Member of Parliament for Hulu Rajang, Wilson Ugak Kumbong, highlighted that community well-being depends on improving health standards while simultaneously widening access to digital facilities.

He made the remarks during the Sejahtera Community Carnival Postponement Ceremony at Uma Sambop, Long Semutut, organised by the Primary Health Care Advanced Diploma Programme of the Ministry of Health Malaysia’s Training Institution (ILKKM) Kuching.

He stressed that the theme “Health Is Wealth, Energy Is Trust” should be seen as a call to action, urging communities to work together in safeguarding health and fostering cooperation.

According to him, four key areas require attention: preventing non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease; adopting holistic health practices that encompass physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being; and implementing health screenings with early intervention.

“A healthy community is born from a community that helps each other, unites and is responsible for common well-being,” he said, underscoring the importance of collective responsibility in achieving sustainable health outcomes.

Beyond healthcare, Wilson Ugak emphasised the government’s ongoing commitment to rural infrastructure development.

Roads, electricity, and other basic facilities continue to be expanded to improve living standards and support economic growth in remote areas.

As Deputy Digital Minister, he also reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to ensuring rural communities are not left behind in Malaysia’s digital transformation.

Plans include expanding internet coverage, strengthening digital infrastructure, and improving digital literacy.

He noted that digital technology should be embraced by all levels of society to enhance living standards, create economic opportunities, and simplify daily activities.

At the same event, Wilson Ugak announced an allocation of RM200,000 for the construction of a jetty at Uma Sambop.

Additionally, RM10,000 each was granted to the Women’s Bureau and the youth group to support community development programmes and local activities.

He expressed hope that the Sejahtera Community Carnival would continue in future years, as it not only raises awareness about healthcare but also strengthens ties between communities, government agencies, and strategic partners. Such initiatives, he said, are vital in building a more sustainable and resilient society.

The ceremony was attended by Belaga District Officer Bidah Lujah, ILKKM Kuching Deputy Academic Director Norazita Mohamad Talip, Belaga District Police Chief Jimbai Bala, Bakun HEP Station Manager representative Rom Kulleh, community leaders, tribal leaders, and department heads.

Their presence reflected the collective support for initiatives aimed at improving rural health and digital access.
