KUCHING – The Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, attended the Friday congregational prayers at the Sarawak State Mosque on 3 July, marking a significant occasion for the local Muslim community.
Upon his arrival, Tun Pehin Sri was received by Ustaz Haji Mual bin Haji Suaud, Director of the Islamic Religious Department, alongside officers from the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS).
The welcoming party also included Sarawak’s Mufti, Datu Haji Khalidi bin Haji Ibrahim, and Ustaz Haji Ahmad Sukarno bin Saini, Director of the Sarawak Mufti Department.
The prayers were led by Grand Imam Dato Haji Mustapha Kamal bin Ahmad Fauzi, who delivered a sermon titled “Safe and Ethical Use of the Internet.”
The sermon highlighted the importance of responsible online behaviour, reflecting growing concerns about digital ethics and the impact of technology on society.
The congregation was joined by several senior figures, including Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy State Secretary (Economy) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datu Haji Abdullah Julaihi, and Tanjong Datu Assemblyman Haji Azizul Annuar Adenan. Their attendance underscored the unity between Sarawak’s leadership and its religious institutions.
Following the prayers, Tun Pehin Sri greeted worshippers and distributed donations to children present at the mosque.
He also took time to engage with members of the congregation, strengthening ties with the local Muslim community.
The Sarawak State Mosque, known for its distinctive architecture and role as a central place of worship, has often hosted important religious and civic events.
The governor’s participation in Friday prayers reflects the state’s emphasis on fostering community spirit and maintaining close connections between leaders and citizens.
