KUCHING – The Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) celebrated the achievements of its Innovative and Creative Groups (KIK) at the 2026 convention organised by the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG) Sarawak. The event took place at UCSI Hotel, Kuching, from 29 to 30 June 2026.
The Mekatrik 7 team from DBKU’s Infrastructure Services Department secured third place in the Management Category with their project titled “Provision of Electrical Energy Sources for Inefficient Portable Toilets”.
The initiative was recognised for its practical approach to improving energy efficiency and addressing operational challenges in public facilities.
Meanwhile, the KIK K4U team from the Community Services Department presented their project “High Book Damage Rate”, which focused on reducing wear and tear in library resources.
Although not among the top winners, their participation was commended for demonstrating strong commitment and determination in tackling community service issues.
Both projects reflected DBKU’s ongoing efforts to cultivate innovation and creativity among its workforce. The council emphasised that these achievements highlight the dedication and teamwork of its employees, who continue to strive for excellence in service delivery.
The KIK Convention serves as a platform for government agencies and local councils to showcase innovative solutions that enhance efficiency and impact in public services.
By encouraging staff to develop creative projects, the convention contributes to building a culture of continuous improvement across Sarawak’s public sector.
DBKU expressed pride in its teams’ contributions, noting that their success demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to strengthening service quality and operational effectiveness.
The council also extended congratulations to all winners of the 2026 convention, acknowledging their role in inspiring other agencies to pursue innovation.
This year’s convention brought together numerous groups from different departments, each presenting projects aimed at improving processes, reducing inefficiencies, and delivering better outcomes for communities.
The diversity of ideas showcased underscored the importance of innovation in addressing everyday challenges faced by public institutions.
DBKU hopes that the achievements of Mekatrik 7 and KIK K4U will motivate employees to continue generating innovative ideas and contribute to the council’s mission of delivering impactful services.
