UDC Event 2026

The convention was held at UCSI Hotel, Kuching, from 28 June to 1 July 2026. Representing MDL was the Athmosz group, made up of staff from the Engineering Division.

The team was led by Mr Mohd Nazarudin Fitri Bujang and included Ms Marsha Rusphine Harrison, Ms Chang Siew Siew, Ms Angelia Andrew, Ms Lo See Joe, Mr Mission Kumhiok, Mr Yus Amaroz Jack, Mr Boon Sze Jin, and Mr Muhammad Ismail Ibrahim, who served as group coordinator.

The Athmosz group presented an innovation project titled “Case of High Garbage Bin Damage Due to Accidents at Night.”

Their solution involved upgrading existing garbage bins with a cat eye solar lighting system, designed to make bins more visible in dark areas and reduce the risk of damage caused by vehicles at night.

This project demonstrated the group’s creativity and determination in addressing practical challenges faced by local councils.

By integrating solar-powered lighting, the innovation not only improves safety but also promotes sustainability, aligning with broader environmental goals.

The KIK Convention brought together agencies under the ministry, each presenting new projects aimed at enhancing efficiency and service delivery.

The event served as a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the promotion of a culture of continuous improvement across Sarawak’s public sector.

MDL highlighted that the Athmosz group’s participation symbolises the spirit of cooperation and commitment among its staff.

The council reaffirmed its dedication to supporting innovative initiatives that respond to government policies and improve community services.

The convention also underscored the importance of fostering innovation within local councils, encouraging employees to develop solutions that address everyday issues.

By participating, MDL demonstrated its proactive approach to strengthening organisational efficiency and delivering impactful services to the public.

As Sarawak continues to prioritise innovation in public service, projects such as the Athmosz group’s solar-lit garbage bins reflect the practical steps being taken to improve community well-being.

The council expressed optimism that this initiative will inspire further creative solutions in the future.
