The Premier arrived at the reserve early in the morning and joined a brisk walk around the site, symbolising the government’s commitment to promoting both environmental conservation and healthy lifestyle practices. The event highlighted the reserve’s dual role as a recreational destination and a vital conservation area within Sibu.

In a symbolic gesture of Sarawak’s dedication to biodiversity, the Premier also witnessed the release of a pangolin into the reserve. The act underscored the state’s ongoing efforts to protect endangered species and maintain ecological balance.

The MBR certificate was presented by official representative Tuan Megat Faris Hussein bin Megat Muzaffar Shah to Sibu Division Resident, Tuan Superi Awang Said, and Controller of National Parks and Nature Reserves, Tuan Abang Arabi Abang Aimran. The recognition reflects Sarawak’s success in safeguarding urban peat swamp forests, which are increasingly rare and ecologically significant.

Bukit Lima Nature Reserve, located within Sibu town, is home to diverse flora and fauna and serves as a natural sanctuary amid urban development. Its boardwalks and facilities allow visitors to experience the unique peat swamp ecosystem while raising awareness about conservation. The reserve’s protected status ensures that future generations will continue to benefit from its ecological and recreational value.

The Premier also participated in a sapling planting activity, reinforcing the government’s commitment to greening initiatives and sustainable development. Tree planting has long been a cornerstone of Sarawak’s conservation agenda, symbolising resilience and renewal in the face of environmental challenges.

Following the programme, the Premier proceeded to Sibu Central Market, where he joined local leaders and community members for breakfast. His engagement with residents highlighted the government’s emphasis on connecting development initiatives with community participation.

The recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records elevates Bukit Lima Nature Reserve’s profile nationally, positioning it as a model for balancing urban growth with environmental stewardship. Officials noted that the achievement reflects Sarawak’s proactive approach to conservation and its determination to preserve natural treasures while fostering sustainable development.

Community leaders and conservationists have welcomed the recognition, noting that it will encourage greater public appreciation of the reserve and inspire continued efforts to protect Sarawak’s biodiversity. The event also demonstrated how collaboration between government agencies, local communities, and conservation bodies can deliver meaningful outcomes for both people and the environment.

As Sarawak continues to pursue its development agenda, Bukit Lima Nature Reserve stands as a reminder that progress and sustainability can go hand in hand. The recognition serves not only as a milestone for the reserve but also as a testament to the state’s broader vision of environmental responsibility.
