AADK Sibu Promotes Drug-Free Awareness Among GIATMARA Trainees

SIBU – The Sibu District National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) conducted an awareness talk on 10 July 2026 at the GIATMARA Sibu Meeting Room, aimed at educating new trainees about the dangers of drug abuse.

The session was held in conjunction with GIATMARA Sibu’s Trainee Friendly Week (MMP) for the July 2026 intake, involving 10 new trainees. The programme sought to instil knowledge about drug prevention and encourage participants to adopt healthy lifestyles while resisting harmful influences.

During the talk, trainees were advised to empower themselves with awareness and resilience in the context of drug prevention. AADK officers emphasised that staying informed and vigilant is key to avoiding the risks associated with drug abuse, which can have long-term consequences for individuals and communities.

Earlier in the week, all trainees registered as AADK volunteers through the Anti-Drug Squad introduction session. This proactive step allows them to support the agency’s broader mission of promoting a drug-free lifestyle and educating the public about the dangers of substance abuse.

Officials highlighted that involving young people in volunteer squads is an effective way to strengthen community-based prevention efforts. By engaging trainees early, AADK hopes to create a network of advocates who can spread awareness and encourage their peers to make positive choices.

The initiative reflects AADK’s ongoing commitment to tackling drug abuse at the grassroots level. By working closely with institutions like GIATMARA, the agency aims to ensure that young people entering vocational training are equipped with the knowledge and discipline to avoid drugs and focus on building productive futures.

Community leaders welcomed the programme, noting that drug prevention remains a critical issue in Sarawak. They emphasised that awareness campaigns targeting youth are essential in reducing the risk of drug-related problems and ensuring healthier communities.

The talk also underscored the importance of collaboration between government agencies and educational institutions. By integrating anti-drug awareness into trainee programmes, AADK and GIATMARA are helping to create a supportive environment where young people can thrive without the threat of substance abuse.

As the July 2026 session continues, organisers express optimism that the trainees will carry forward the lessons learned, becoming role models for their peers and contributing to the wider effort to combat drug abuse in Sarawak.
