The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received the complaint at around 3.00am from Mrs Syarifah Safura, who reported that continuous heavy rainfall had caused significant erosion along the riverbank. The situation raised concerns about the safety of nearby residents due to the unstable soil structure.

APM Spaoh immediately deployed a team to the site to conduct monitoring and safety assessments. Upon inspection, officers confirmed that the riverbank soil was unstable and at risk of further collapse if heavy rain persisted.

As a precautionary measure, warning tape was installed around the affected area to prevent residents from approaching. Authorities stressed that the site remains unsafe until further evaluations are completed and the risk of subsequent landslides is eliminated.

The Civil Defence Force has appealed to residents of Kampung Hilir and surrounding areas to remain vigilant and avoid the riverbank until clearance is given by the authorities. Community members are also advised to monitor weather conditions closely and report any signs of erosion or soil movement to PKOD APM Spaoh for immediate action.

Landslides are a recurring hazard in Sarawak, particularly during prolonged rainfall. Such incidents can pose serious risks to lives, property, and infrastructure. Civil Defence teams across the state remain on standby to respond quickly to emergencies, ensuring public safety and minimising disruption.

The Spaoh operation reflects the readiness and commitment of APM to safeguard communities. By responding promptly and implementing preventive measures, the department aims to reduce risks and reassure residents of its operational capability.

Community cooperation is vital in managing such hazards. Authorities encourage residents to report incidents promptly and to comply with safety advisories issued during emergencies. Public awareness campaigns continue to highlight the importance of vigilance and preparedness in reducing the impact of natural disasters.

The Civil Defence Force reiterated its motto of readiness, speed, and integrity in serving the people. Officials emphasised that their priority is to protect lives and ensure the wellbeing of communities across Sarawak.

Residents requiring assistance or wishing to report emergencies can contact the Spaoh Civil Defence Force at 083-473006 or dial the national emergency line at 999.
