KUCHING: The Sarawak Day 2026 Ecumenical Prayer Service brought together people from different faith communities in a meaningful gathering focused on unity, peace and blessings for Sarawak.
Held in conjunction with Sarawak Day celebrations, the prayer service organised by the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) saw participation not only from various Christian denominations but also representatives from the Buddhist, Taoist, Baha’i and Hindu communities.
The gathering highlighted Sarawak’s unique spirit of harmony, with prayers delivered in multiple languages including English, Dayak, Chinese, Malay, Kayan and Tamil. The event reflected the state’s diverse cultural and religious background, where people from different traditions came together with a shared hope for Sarawak’s continued progress and well-being.
This year, the Methodist Church took the lead in organising the annual prayer service. President of the Methodist Church Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference (SCAC), Rev Dr Lau Hui Ming, delivered a sermon titled “Bless Sarawak with Unity & Prayer”, based on Psalm 133.
In his message, Rev Dr Lau reminded participants that Sarawak’s development should not only focus on physical progress but also include spiritual strength and guidance.
“Sarawak does not only need development but needs spiritual covering and spiritual courage,” he said during his sermon.
The prayer session included special prayers for different aspects of Sarawak’s future. Archdeacon Joseph Dusit from the Anglican Church Sarawak led prayers for the state government and political development.
Rev Stephanie Juan from SIAC Gereja Methodist Iban Bandaraya Kuching prayed for the education sector, while Pastor Lim Gee Tiong from Sarawak Blessed Church led prayers for Sarawak’s society and communities.
Rev Fr Davie Entalai from the Roman Catholic Church Sarawak offered prayers for churches and spiritual revival, while Pastor Wong Yik Soo from Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) prayed for Sarawak’s economy.
A total of 768 participants attended the Sarawak Day 2026 Ecumenical Prayer Service, showing strong support for the message of unity and togetherness. The event also received generous contributions, with around RM5,000 collected during the gathering.
The ACS expressed appreciation to all participants, religious leaders and supporters who contributed towards making the prayer service a meaningful occasion.
The Sarawak Day 2026 Ecumenical Prayer Service served as a reminder of the importance of mutual respect, cooperation and unity among Sarawak’s diverse communities. Through shared prayers and collective hope, the gathering reflected the values of harmony that continue to shape the state’s identity.
