During a courtesy call from the Malaysian Institute of Professionals (BIM), led by its President Prof ChM Dr Juan Joon Ching, discussions focused on enhancing professional readiness and ensuring Malaysia remains competitive as a regional hub for excellence. The meeting took place on 16 July 2026 and was part of ongoing efforts to align national development with global technological shifts.

Anwar emphasised that the government views professionals as vital partners in advancing the nation’s competitiveness. He noted that their contributions are central to driving innovation and ensuring the success of the MADANI agenda, which prioritises the well-being of the people through sustainable and inclusive policies.

“The government appreciates the role of the professional community as a strategic partner in strengthening the country’s competitiveness, driving innovation and making the MADANI agenda a success for the well-being of the people,” he said.

The Prime Minister also accepted an invitation to attend Malaysian Professionals Day, an event that celebrates the contributions of professionals across various sectors to national progress. This occasion is expected to highlight the achievements of Malaysia’s professional community and reinforce their role in shaping the country’s future.

The courtesy call underscored BIM’s commitment to fostering collaboration with the government. Prof Dr Juan Joon Ching, who led the delegation, stressed the importance of equipping professionals with the skills and integrity needed to thrive in an AI-driven environment. The organisation has long advocated for continuous professional development, recognising that Malaysia’s ability to compete regionally depends on its workforce’s adaptability and resilience.

Talent development has become a pressing issue as industries worldwide adapt to rapid technological change. Malaysia’s focus on AI readiness reflects broader global trends, where governments and institutions are investing heavily in digital skills and innovation ecosystems. By strengthening cooperation with BIM, the government aims to ensure that professionals are not only prepared for technological disruption but also capable of leading advancements in their fields.

The meeting also highlighted the government’s broader strategy of engaging with professional bodies to build a knowledge-based economy. This approach aligns with Malaysia’s ambition to position itself as a centre of excellence in Southeast Asia, where skilled professionals play a pivotal role in sustaining growth and competitiveness.

Anwar expressed hope that the partnership between the government and BIM would continue to flourish, producing more professionals who embody integrity, competitiveness, and leadership. He stressed that nurturing such talent is essential for Malaysia’s long-term vision of becoming a forward-looking nation capable of meeting global challenges.

The dialogue between BIM and the government reflects a shared understanding that professional development is not merely about technical skills but also about fostering ethical standards and social responsibility. As Malaysia advances its AI agenda, the role of professionals in ensuring responsible innovation will be increasingly significant.

The courtesy call concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to closer collaboration. The government’s recognition of BIM’s role signals a strong endorsement of the professional community’s contributions, while BIM’s proactive engagement demonstrates its readiness to support Malaysia’s transformation in the digital era.

With AI reshaping industries and societies, Malaysia’s emphasis on professional preparedness is timely. The partnership between the government and BIM is expected to strengthen the nation’s capacity to harness technological change, ensuring that Malaysia remains competitive and resilient in the years ahead.
