The Mega Operation, which commenced at 11.30 am, focused on business premises suspected of employing or being operated by foreigners. The initiative was designed to ensure compliance with immigration laws and to identify individuals violating national regulations.

A total of 2,260 people were inspected during the exercise, with 503 foreign citizens found to have committed various offences. Those detained included nationals from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia, Nepal, India, and several other countries. The detainees, aged between 21 and 52, comprised 408 men and 95 women.

The enforcement team was made up of 876 officers from the Immigration Department, supported by personnel from the National Registration Department, Royal Malaysian Police, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, and local authorities. Their combined efforts underscored the government’s commitment to tackling immigration violations through coordinated action.

The Immigration Department reported that the offences detected included failure to produce valid identification documents, overstaying visas, breaching pass conditions, and possession of unrecognised cards. In addition, 120 summonses were issued to Malaysian citizens to assist in investigations, highlighting the department’s focus on addressing both foreign and local involvement in immigration breaches.

All detainees will be placed in Immigration Detention Depots across Malaysia pending investigation and further legal proceedings. Authorities confirmed that enforcement will continue under the provisions of the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966, the Immigration Regulations 1963, and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.

Officials stressed that such operations are necessary to safeguard national security and ensure orderly management of foreign workers and residents. The department reiterated its warning to employers and members of the public against harbouring or protecting undocumented migrants, noting that legal action will be taken against those found guilty of doing so.

The Immigration Department also encouraged the public to provide information that could assist in identifying and apprehending illegal immigrants. By working closely with communities, authorities aim to strengthen enforcement and maintain compliance with national laws.

This latest operation reflects Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to address immigration challenges amid global economic uncertainties and rising cross-border movements. The department’s proactive stance demonstrates its determination to uphold the rule of law and protect the integrity of the country’s immigration system.
