PAKAN – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Pakan District successfully captured a golden ring snake inside a residential property at Genting Kopi on 13 July 2026.
The emergency call was received from a local resident who discovered the reptile in his home. Responding promptly, APM Pakan deployed a team to the location, where they found the snake measuring approximately one metre in length.
The operation was carried out smoothly, with members using appropriate handling techniques to ensure both public safety and the welfare of the personnel involved. No injuries were reported during the mission, and the snake was safely removed from the premises.
Golden ring snakes, also known as banded kraits, are venomous and considered dangerous if encountered in residential areas.
Wildlife experts caution that their bites can be fatal without immediate medical treatment. The presence of such snakes in homes highlights the importance of community vigilance and the role of emergency responders in mitigating risks.
APM Pakan has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents from wildlife threats. The unit regularly responds to calls involving snakes, wasps, and other hazardous animals, ensuring that communities remain safe. Their swift intervention in Genting Kopi prevented potential harm and reassured the complainant and his family.
Local authorities continue to advise residents to exercise caution when dealing with wildlife. In the event of sightings, the public is urged not to attempt handling dangerous animals themselves but to contact emergency services immediately. Such cooperation ensures that incidents are managed professionally and safely.
The successful capture of the golden ring snake demonstrates the readiness and efficiency of APM Pakan in responding to diverse emergencies. Their ability to act quickly and effectively reflects the broader mission of the civil defence force to safeguard lives and property across Sarawak.
As Sarawak’s rural communities often encounter wildlife due to their proximity to forests and plantations, the role of APM remains vital. The Genting Kopi case serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness, community awareness, and the availability of trained personnel to handle unexpected threats.
