The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received a call from the public at 9.50 am reporting that an adult female was experiencing weakness and shortness of breath. Within five minutes, four APM members were mobilised to the location.

Arriving at the scene at 10.00 am, the team found the victim conscious but visibly weak in the living room of her home. After assessing her condition, responders determined that immediate medical attention was required. She was transported to Kapit Hospital using the APM ambulance at 10.10 am and arrived safely at 10.20 am.

The patient was handed over to hospital staff for further examination and treatment. The operation concluded at 10.25 am, with the team returning to PKOD Kapit by 10.33 am. Equipment and logistics used during the mission were reported to be in good condition.

Emergency medical calls involving symptoms such as weakness and breathing difficulties are taken seriously, as they may indicate underlying health conditions, including respiratory issues, cardiovascular problems, or infections. Medical experts emphasise that early intervention is crucial in preventing complications.

APM Kapit has reaffirmed its commitment to providing rapid and effective assistance to the community. The unit regularly responds to diverse emergencies, ranging from medical cases to fire incidents and wildlife threats. Their readiness ensures that residents in rural areas receive timely support when needed.

Local authorities continue to encourage the public to report emergencies promptly. Community vigilance plays a vital role in ensuring that assistance reaches victims without delay. In this case, the quick call from concerned citizens enabled APM Kapit to act swiftly and deliver the necessary care.

The incident also highlights the importance of emergency preparedness in rural districts such as Kapit, where distances to hospitals can pose challenges. Civil defence teams remain essential in bridging this gap, ensuring that patients are stabilised and transported safely.

Residents are reminded that APM Kapit can be contacted directly in the event of emergencies. The district hotline, 084-796330, is available 24 hours a day, alongside the national emergency line, 999.

As Sarawak continues to strengthen its emergency response systems, the cooperation between communities, hospitals, and civil defence teams remains central to safeguarding public health. The Kapit case demonstrates how preparedness and swift intervention can make a decisive difference in protecting lives.
