DARO – Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, officiated the opening of Masjid Al-Umran in Kampung Tebaang, Daro, on 17 July 2026.
The mosque, envisioned as a centre for religious growth and community unity, is set to play a pivotal role in strengthening the spiritual and social fabric of the local Muslim community.
The Premier joined residents for Friday prayers at the newly inaugurated mosque, with the congregation led by Sahibul Fadilah Dato Haji Mustapha Kamal Haji Ahmad Fauzi, Grand Imam of Sarawak.
His presence underscored the importance of the mosque as both a place of worship and a hub for community engagement.
Masjid Al-Umran derives its name from the Arabic word ‘Amara’, meaning to prosper. The name reflects its mission to serve as a centre for worship, education, dakwah, and tarbiah, fostering a society that is prosperous, moral, and spiritually enriched.
The mosque is expected to become a focal point for religious activities, knowledge dissemination, and community development in Kampung Tebaang and surrounding areas.
The ceremony included the signing of a plaque to mark the mosque’s official inauguration, symbolising its readiness to serve the local population.
The event was attended by senior state leaders, highlighting the significance of the occasion within Sarawak’s broader development agenda.
Among those present were Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development; Sarawak Planning Unit Director Ir. Ts. Awang Mohammad Fadillah Awang Redzuan; Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman Haji Junaidi; State Assemblyman for N.43 Daro, Dr. Haji Safiee Haji Ahmad; and Member of Parliament for P.207 Igan, Tuan Haji Ahmad Johnie Zawawi.
The Premier’s involvement in the opening ceremony reinforced the government’s commitment to supporting religious institutions as part of Sarawak’s holistic development.
By investing in facilities such as Masjid Al-Umran, the state aims to strengthen community bonds, promote moral values, and ensure that spiritual growth complements economic and social progress.
Local residents welcomed the mosque’s opening, viewing it as a milestone in the district’s development. The facility is expected to provide not only a place for worship but also a venue for educational programmes, community gatherings, and initiatives aimed at nurturing unity and resilience among the people.
