LUNDU – The Sarawak Manpower Department (JTK Sarawak) successfully concluded the seventh iteration of its Labour Go Rural Area Programme (LGRAP) with a vibrant community sports event held on 17 July 2026.

UDC Event 2026

Hosted at Sekolah Kebangsaan Biawak, the initiative brought together residents of all ages in a celebration of local camaraderie and physical well-being. The Labour Go Rural Area Programme is a cornerstone of the state’s grassroots outreach strategy.

Established to bridge the geographical and administrative gap between government agencies and rural populations, the initiative aims to deliver essential services, vital information, and recreational opportunities directly to the doorsteps of communities.

The seventh edition of this programme in the Lundu district underscored a continued, unwavering commitment to inclusive regional development and equitable resource distribution.

Sekolah Kebangsaan Biawak served as an ideal venue for the gathering, providing ample space for both competitive fixtures and casual social interaction.

The event witnessed a robust turnout, with families, youth, and senior citizens participating side by side. This multi-generational attendance highlighted the broad appeal of the activities and the strong sense of community pride within the Lundu district.

The sporting itinerary was carefully curated to encourage teamwork and collective joy rather than purely individual athletic prowess.

Traditional and light-hearted competitions, including spirited tug-of-war matches, precision water bottle relay races, and classic bread-eating contests, formed the core of the day’s events.

These activities were specifically chosen to be highly accessible to participants of varying physical abilities, ensuring that children, adults, and seniors alike could actively contribute to their team’s success.

Beyond the immediate entertainment value, these games serve a critical social function. They foster communication, build trust, and encourage cooperative problem-solving among neighbours.

In an era where digital distractions often isolate individuals, such face-to-face communal activities are invaluable for maintaining the social fabric of rural settlements. Furthermore, the event actively promoted the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

By encouraging physical activity in a fun, low-pressure environment, the Sarawak Manpower Department aimed to inspire residents to incorporate regular exercise into their daily routines.

This aligns with broader public health objectives to reduce lifestyle-related illnesses and improve overall community vitality.

The seamless execution of the programme was largely due to the collaborative efforts of multiple stakeholders.

JTK Sarawak extended its formal gratitude to the residents of Kampung Biawak, whose enthusiastic participation and hospitality were instrumental to the day’s success.

The dedication of the local volunteers and the organising committee ensured that all logistical and safety requirements were meticulously managed.

For the Sarawak Manpower Department, events of this nature represent a vital extension of their mandate.

While primarily known for labour regulation and workforce development, the department recognises that a thriving, cohesive community is fundamental to a productive economy.

Strengthening interpersonal bonds at the grassroots level directly contributes to a more stable and resilient local workforce.

The positive reception of LGRAP 7.0 in Lundu reinforces the viability of this outreach model. Feedback from attendees indicated a strong desire for similar initiatives in the future, suggesting that the programme has successfully met a genuine community need for accessible recreational engagement.

As the state continues to prioritise balanced development across all administrative divisions, programmes that seamlessly unite government agencies with local populations will remain absolutely essential.

The memories created, the laughter shared, and the relationships strengthened at Sekolah Kebangsaan Biawak will undoubtedly serve as a robust foundation for future collaborative efforts.

This ensures that the spirit of unity, mutual support, and community resilience endures long after the final whistle has blown.
