UDC Event 2026

The operation, conducted on 17 July 2026, resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of various quantities of suspected methamphetamine.

The initial breakthrough occurred in the Simpang Kampung Saan area of Tebedu. Acting on reliable intelligence, officers intercepted a forty-one-year-old Indonesian national.

During a thorough search, authorities discovered twenty-three straw tubes containing a white crystalline substance. The total gross weight of the seized items was recorded at 1.3 grams.

Simultaneously, at the same location, a twenty-eight-year-old local man from Kampung Sungai Tapang Bayur in Balai Ringin was apprehended.

He was found in possession of a plastic packet containing a suspected illicit substance with a gross weight of 0.7 grams. Both men were taken into custody for further questioning and forensic analysis.

Following the initial arrests, investigators traced the activities of the Indonesian suspect to a rented accommodation in Bandar Serian. A subsequent raid on the premises led to the detention of an Indonesian woman.

During the search of the room, police recovered three transparent plastic packets and three additional straw tubes. These items contained a suspected methamphetamine mixture with a combined gross weight of 1.34 grams.

All three suspects are currently facing serious legal repercussions. They are being investigated under Section 12(3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which pertains to the possession of controlled substances.

If convicted under this section, the individuals could face a fine not exceeding RM100,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, or both.

In addition to the possession charges, preliminary urine screening tests conducted on all three detainees returned positive results for methamphetamine and amphetamine. Consequently, they are also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

A conviction under this provision carries a penalty of a fine not exceeding RM5,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both. Furthermore, the court may impose a period of police supervision as deemed necessary for their rehabilitation and monitoring.

The Serian District Police Chief emphasised the force’s zero-tolerance stance towards narcotics trafficking and abuse.

Authorities have warned that repeat offenders, particularly those involved in dealing, will face the full wrath of the law under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

This stringent provision mandates a minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum of seven years, along with whipping of not more than three strokes for convicted dealers.

This operation highlights the persistent threat posed by illicit substances in border districts and rural areas.

The seamless collaboration between different police units demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in disrupting supply chains at the grassroots level.

By targeting both suppliers and users, the authorities aim to reduce the availability of drugs within the community.

Members of the public are strongly urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

Anyone with information regarding drug trafficking, including the trade of ketum or other psychoactive substances, is encouraged to come forward.

Such tips are crucial in helping the police identify hotspots and dismantle criminal networks operating in residential areas.

Information can be channelled directly to the nearest police station or via dedicated hotlines. The identity of informants is strictly protected to ensure their safety and encourage open communication.

Community participation is viewed as a vital component in the broader strategy to eradicate the drug problem from society.

The recent arrests serve as a stark reminder of the severe legal consequences associated with drug offences.

Beyond the immediate penalties, a criminal record can have long-lasting impacts on an individual’s employment prospects and social standing.

The police hope that these enforcement actions will serve as a deterrent to those considering involvement in the illegal drug trade.

As investigations continue, the police remain committed to maintaining a drug-free environment in the Serian district.

Regular patrols and targeted operations will be sustained to ensure that public safety is not compromised by the scourge of substance abuse. The ultimate goal is to protect the well-being of families and the future of the youth in the region.
