KUCHING – The upcoming Kuching Festival Food Fair 2026 has received a significant boost following a generous sponsorship from Magnum.
The company presented a contribution of RM45,000 to the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), reinforcing its long-standing commitment to supporting major cultural and culinary events in the state capital.
The handover ceremony was attended by Dato Wee Hong Seng, the Mayor of Kuching South, who expressed his profound gratitude for the corporate backing.
He highlighted that this latest contribution is part of a two-decade relationship between the ice cream brand and the city council, marking Magnum as one of the organisation’s most enduring private sector partners.
Acknowledging the consistency of this support, Dato Wee stated, “Magnum has been one of MBKS longest-standing corporate partners. We sincerely appreciate its unwavering support in making the Kuching Festival a success year after year.”
This sentiment underscores the importance of stable corporate partnerships in ensuring the continuity and quality of annual public festivities.
The mayor further elaborated on the broader implications of such collaborations. He noted that the sponsorship exemplifies the effective synergy between public authorities and private enterprises.
By working together, these entities can deliver high-quality community events that not only entertain residents but also promote Kuching as a dynamic and vibrant urban destination.
Scheduled to run from 22 July to 16 August 2026, the Kuching Festival Food Fair promises to be a substantial affair.
The event will feature an extensive array of 314 stalls, offering a diverse mix of local delicacies and international cuisine, alongside various trade products.
This wide selection aims to cater to varied tastes and preferences, attracting food enthusiasts from across the region.
A highlight of the festival calendar is the official opening ceremony set for 24 July 2026. The inauguration will be accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display, expected to draw large crowds to the waterfront area.
This visual spectacle serves as a traditional kickoff to the weeks of entertainment and culinary exploration that follow.
Dato Wee extended a warm invitation to the general public to participate in the celebrations. He encouraged families and groups of friends to visit the fairgrounds to immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere.
The 26-day duration of the event provides ample opportunity for residents and tourists alike to enjoy the food, live performances, and communal spirit that define the Kuching Festival.
The Kuching Festival has historically served as a platform for local small and medium enterprises to showcase their products.
By providing a dedicated space for 314 vendors, the MBKS supports local entrepreneurship and economic activity during the festive period.
The inclusion of trade stalls alongside food outlets allows visitors to purchase unique souvenirs and household items, further enhancing the commercial appeal of the fair.
Corporate sponsorships like the one from Magnum play a critical role in offsetting operational costs, allowing organisers to maintain affordable entry prices and high standards of hygiene and safety.
Such financial support ensures that the festival remains accessible to people from all socioeconomic backgrounds, fostering inclusivity within the community.
As preparations enter their final stages, anticipation is building among locals and visitors. The combination of diverse culinary offerings, entertainment programmes, and the iconic fireworks display continues to make the Kuching Festival a staple event in the state’s cultural calendar.
The renewed partnership with Magnum signals another promising edition, poised to celebrate the rich gastronomic heritage of Sarawak while strengthening community bonds through shared experiences.
