KUCHING – The top representative of Sarawak state has publicly endorsed the newly launched Sarawak airline company, AirBorneo, following an official journey from the state capital to Kuala Lumpur.
His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, serving as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, utilised the airline’s services alongside his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, marking a significant moment for the locally owned enterprise.
The departure took place on the afternoon of 25 July at Kuching International Airport. The flight was part of a scheduled official visit to the federal capital, demonstrating high-level confidence in the infrastructure and operational capabilities of the state-backed aviation initiative.
Observers noted that the choice of carrier was deliberate, aiming to highlight the progress made in establishing a robust air transport network under local stewardship.
Senior government figures and corporate executives were present at the terminal to bid farewell to the distinguished passengers. Among those in attendance was the Secretary to the State Government of Sarawak, who also serves as the Chairman of AirBorneo, Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar bin Marzuki.
He was accompanied by his spouse, Yang Berbahagia Dato Hajah Baduyah binti Haji Bujang. Their presence underscored the close ties between the state administration and the airline’s management structure.
Also joining the send-off ceremony were key national and industry stakeholders. The Malaysian Minister of Works, Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, attended the event, signalling federal support for regional connectivity projects.
Representing the airline’s leadership were Board Member Yang Berbahagia Dato Philip Ting, Chief Operating Officer Mr R Dharmaraj Naiker, and Senior Marketing Manager Mr Lazim Yassin, along with other senior management personnel. This gathering illustrated the collaborative effort required to launch and sustain such a significant transport venture.
Following the ceremonial departure, the Chairman and his wife joined the Governor and Toh Puan on board flight MY5005. The aircraft departed Kuching at 13:00 hours and arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in strict accordance with the published timetable.
The punctuality of the service was highlighted as a key indicator of the airline’s operational reliability during its early stages of operation.
During the transit, the royal couple reportedly expressed considerable satisfaction with the onboard experience. They commended the cabin crew for their hospitality and noted the comfort levels provided throughout the short-haul journey.
