Datin Lim Geok Lian Laid to Rest, SUPP Leaders Pay Final Respects

KUCHING, July 25 – Family members, friends, and leaders of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) gathered in Kuching to pay their final respects to Datin Lim Geok Lian, the wife of veteran Sarawak politician Datuk Yong Khoon Seng, who was laid to rest Today.

The solemn funeral ceremony was attended by senior SUPP leaders, party members, and close friends who came together to honour the life and contributions of the late Datin Lim. The gathering also served as a moment for many to express their condolences to Datuk Yong and his family during their time of grief.

Among those present were SUPP President Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and YB Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang. Both leaders offered their deepest sympathies to Datuk Yong Khoon Seng and his family.

In his tribute, Dr Sim described the late Datin Lim as a loyal SUPP comrade who had stood faithfully beside her husband throughout his years of public service. He said her quiet support and dedication had helped Datuk Yong carry out his responsibilities in serving both the party and the people of Sarawak.

Dr Sim also offered prayers for the late Datin Lim and expressed hope that she would rest in peace. His tribute reflected the appreciation shared by many within the party for her years of commitment and support.

SUPP Batu Lintang Chairman Sih Hua Tong was also among those who attended the funeral to pay his last respects and extend condolences to the bereaved family.

Datuk Yong Khoon Seng is widely recognised as one of Sarawak’s veteran politicians and one of the long-serving leaders of SUPP. During his political career, he served for many years as a Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (ADUN), representing constituencies in Kuching.

He also held several important positions within SUPP and played a significant role in strengthening the party’s grassroots organisation. His years of service saw him contribute to community development, public infrastructure projects, and programmes aimed at improving the well-being of the people.

Datuk Yong also served in the Sarawak Cabinet, where he contributed to the state’s administration and development. Even after retiring from active frontline politics, he continues to be respected as a senior party leader and adviser within SUPP.

The passing of Datin Lim has saddened many members of the party, who remembered her as a devoted and supportive companion throughout Datuk Yong’s decades of public service. While she did not hold public office, many acknowledged her unwavering support behind the scenes, allowing her husband to dedicate his time to serving the people of Sarawak.

As family, friends, and party members gathered to bid her a final farewell, many offered prayers and messages of sympathy to Datuk Yong Khoon Seng and his family. The funeral marked a solemn moment for the SUPP community as they remembered the life of a loyal party comrade whose dedication and support will not be forgotten.
