Daro Community Unites For Muara Lassa Fun Walk 2026

DARO – The scenic Muara Lassa Bridge served as the backdrop for a vibrant community gathering on 25 July 2026, as hundreds of residents participated in the Muara Lassa Fun Walk. Held in conjunction with the Daro Festival 2026, the event aimed to promote physical well-being and social cohesion among the local population.

The initiative was a collaborative effort involving several key organisations, including the Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (PEMADAM) Daro Branch, the Daro District Government Members Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK), and the Public Works Department (JKR) of the Mukah Division. This multi-agency partnership highlighted a shared commitment to fostering a healthy and active lifestyle within the district.

Ts. Haji Awang Dasuki bin Haji Awang Dol, the Division Engineer for the Mukah Division JKR, led a delegation of officers from both the divisional and district JKR offices. Their participation underscored the support of government agencies for community-led health initiatives. By joining the walk, officials demonstrated solidarity with the residents and reinforced the importance of public engagement in such programmes.

One of the most visually striking aspects of the event was the costume competition. Participants showcased immense creativity and humour through their attire, transforming the walk into a colourful parade. The enthusiastic response to this segment added a festive layer to the proceedings, drawing cheers from spectators and creating a lively atmosphere along the route.

Beyond the entertainment, the core objective of the fun walk was to encourage regular physical activity. In an era where sedentary lifestyles are becoming increasingly common, events like this serve as gentle reminders of the benefits of exercise. The relaxed nature of the walk allowed people of all ages and fitness levels to participate without pressure, making health advocacy accessible to everyone.

The event also played a crucial role in strengthening community bonds. Walking side by side provided opportunities for neighbours to interact, share stories, and build friendships. This spirit of togetherness is essential for maintaining a cohesive society, particularly in rural districts where community ties are a vital source of support.

Several dignitaries were present to show their support, including Mr. Zul bin Haji Usup, the Daro District Officer, and DSP Rahim anak Mihos, the Matu Daro District Police Chief. Their presence, along with heads of various government departments and agencies, signalled broad institutional backing for the event. Local residents turned out in force, filling the bridge and surrounding areas with energy and positivity.

The adjournment ceremony was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dr. Haji Safiee bin Haji Ahmad, the State Assemblyman for N.43 Daro. In his address, he expressed profound gratitude to all participants, the organising committee, sponsors, and cooperating parties. He acknowledged that the success of the event was a result of collective effort and dedication.

YB Dr. Safiee emphasised the importance of sustaining such initiatives. He expressed hope that the Muara Lassa Fun Walk would become a recurring feature in the district’s calendar. Regular events of this nature can have a cumulative effect on public health, gradually shifting cultural norms towards more active living.

The collaboration between PEMADAM, MAKSAK, and JKR serves as a model for future community projects. By pooling resources and expertise, these organisations were able to deliver a high-quality event that resonated with the public. This approach ensures that logistical challenges are managed effectively while maximising community impact.

Drug prevention remains a subtle but important underlying theme, given PEMADAM’s involvement. Promoting healthy alternatives to substance abuse is a key strategy in combating drug-related issues. Physical activity and community engagement provide positive outlets for energy and stress, contributing to overall mental and physical well-being.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the organisation and the festive mood. The combination of exercise, creativity, and social interaction made the event memorable for families and individuals alike. Such positive experiences encourage repeat participation in future health campaigns.

As the Daro Festival continues, the success of the fun walk adds to the celebratory spirit of the season. It demonstrates that festivals can be more than just cultural showcases; they can also be platforms for promoting health and unity. This holistic approach enriches the value of local celebrations for the entire community.

Looking forward, organisers may consider expanding the scope of the event or introducing new categories to keep it fresh. The strong foundation laid this year provides a solid base for growth. With continued support from the state assemblyman and local agencies, the Muara Lassa Fun Walk has the potential to become a flagship event for the region.
