MARUDI – The Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, officially officiated the opening ceremony of the upgraded As-Salam Mosque in Marudi on 25 July 2026. The event marked a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to enhance religious infrastructure and support the spiritual needs of local communities.
The upgrading project was designed to provide more comfortable, conducive, and inclusive facilities for worshippers. By modernising the mosque’s amenities, the initiative aims to accommodate the growing congregation and ensure that the space remains accessible and welcoming to all members of the community. The improvements reflect a broader commitment to maintaining high standards in places of worship across Sarawak.
Representing the Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), Ustaz Haji Wan Shaifudin bin Haji Wan Madihi, Deputy Director II of JAIS, attended the ceremony. His presence highlighted the department’s active role in overseeing the development and management of Islamic institutions. The upgrade is seen as a vital step in strengthening the practice of the Islamic faith within the Marudi district.
Also gracing the occasion was YB Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Haji Junaidi, Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department. Serving as the Project Coordinator for the Regional Development Agency, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs, his involvement underscores the multi-faceted approach taken by the state government in integrating religious development with regional progress. The minister’s attendance signalled strong administrative support for the project from its inception to completion.
The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, local community leaders, and members of the As-Salam Mosque congregation.
