KUCHING – The Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, commemorated his 76th birthday in a simple gathering organised by staff from the Premier’s Office at the Satria Pertiwi Complex, Petra Jaya.
The occasion reflected the Premier’s humility, despite his prominent role in elevating Sarawak’s profile both nationally and internationally. Staff members took the opportunity to extend their birthday wishes in a relaxed and cordial atmosphere, highlighting the close bond between the Premier and his team.
Joining the celebration was his daughter, Dayang Norjihan, who added a personal touch to the event. Her presence alongside the Premier’s staff underscored the family-oriented nature of the gathering.
The celebration was brief, taking place before the Premier resumed his official duties for the day. Following the event, he attended a scheduled meeting and continued with his agenda, demonstrating his commitment to leadership and governance.
The Premier’s understated birthday observance served as a reminder of his grounded character. While he has played a pivotal role in positioning Sarawak on the national and international stage, he continues to value simplicity and community spirit.
The event also highlighted the appreciation of his staff, who expressed their respect and admiration for his leadership. Their participation reflected the collective gratitude for his contributions to Sarawak’s progress and development.
As Sarawak continues to advance under his stewardship, the Premier’s modest celebration symbolised his dedication to service rather than personal grandeur. It reinforced his image as a leader who remains approachable and connected to the people around him.
The gathering, though small in scale, carried significant meaning. It demonstrated that leadership is not only about achievements and recognition but also about humility, respect and the ability to inspire through example.
The Premier’s 76th birthday celebration will be remembered as a moment that encapsulated his values of simplicity, family and service, qualities that continue to define his leadership in Sarawak.
