KUCHING – Johor Yahya Awal Hong Xian Da Di Temple Dragon Dance Team emerged as the champion of the Luminous Dragon Dance Competition at the Sarawak Open International Dragon and Lion Dance Cup 2026.
The Johor-based team secured the top position with a score of 9.27 points, finishing ahead of competitors from Sabah and Sarawak.
Sabah Tawau Pa Hua High School Alumni Association Golden Dragon Team took second place after recording 8.99 points in the competition.
Miri Tai Po Golden Dragon Troupe from Sarawak finished third with a score of 8.80 points.
The results placed teams from Johor, Sabah and Sarawak among the top three positions in the Luminous Dragon Dance Competition.
The competition formed part of the Sarawak Open International Dragon and Lion Dance Cup 2026, which features dragon and lion dance teams competing in various categories.
The Luminous Dragon Dance Competition provides performers with a platform to demonstrate their skills through coordinated dragon dance routines.
The Johor team achieved the highest score among the participating teams, earning the championship following the completion of the competition.
Its 9.27-point score gave the team a 0.28-point advantage over the Sabah Tawau Pa Hua High School Alumni Association Golden Dragon Team, which recorded 8.99 points.
Miri Tai Po Golden Dragon Troupe was a further 0.19 points behind the Sabah team, finishing with 8.80 points for third place.
The close scores among the leading teams reflected a competitive result in the category, with less than half a point separating first and third place.
The prize presentation was conducted by SOIDLDC2026 patrons YBhg Dato Tan Guek Kee and Pemanca Tan Kun Gee.
Tan Guek Kee is the chairman of Lee Onn Group, while Tan Kun Gee is the chief executive officer of Aeroville Mall and also serves as the competition chairman.
They presented the prizes to the winning teams following the conclusion of the Luminous Dragon Dance Competition.
The participation of teams from Johor, Sabah and Sarawak also highlighted the regional nature of the event.
The Sarawak Open International Dragon and Lion Dance Cup brings together performers from different parts of Malaysia to compete in dragon and lion dance events.
The 2026 competition provides an opportunity for participating teams to showcase their performances while competing for honours in their respective categories.

The Sabah Tawau Pa Hua High School Alumni Association Golden Dragon Team followed in second place, while Miri Tai Po Golden Dragon Troupe secured the final podium position.
The results also gave Sarawak a representative among the top three teams, with the Miri troupe finishing third.
