KUCHING – The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd. Sanusi received a courtesy visit from the main committee responsible for the 2026 Sarawak National Day Celebration at the State Astana in Petra Jaya on 10 August.
The meeting took place at 10.00 am and involved members of the organising committee responsible for coordinating this year’s state-level National Day activities.
The delegation was led by YB Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, Sarawak Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development, who is also the minister responsible for the 2026 National Day Celebration.
The visit was held to formally present the official invitation to Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan to attend several events planned as part of the 2026 celebration.
Among the other members of the delegation were YB Dato Hajah Rosey binti Haji Yunus, Deputy Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing Sarawak I (Women and Children Development).
Also present was YB Datuk Liwan Lagang, Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Sarawak I (Telecommunications), together with YB Datuk Majang Anak Renggi, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak (Port Development).
The delegation also included YB Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Sarawak (Customary Law and Bumiputera Customs), and YB Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Sarawak (Food Industry).
YBhg Datu Hamdan bin Haji Sharbini, Director of UPPANS, and Encik Elvis Anak Didit, Resident of Kapit Division, were also part of the delegation.
Kapit Division has been selected as the host for this year’s Sarawak National Day celebration.
As part of the programme, Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan have been invited to attend the National Threshold Celebration, Unity Walk and the 2026 Sarawak National Day Assembly as guests of honour.
The selection of Kapit as the host places the division at the centre of the state’s main National Day activities for 2026. The events are expected to bring together people from different communities as part of the wider celebration.
During the courtesy visit, Tun Pehin Sri conveyed his appreciation to the organising committee for its efforts in preparing for the celebration.
He acknowledged the work being carried out by the committee to ensure that the various activities and programmes can be conducted smoothly.
The meeting also highlighted the coordination between the state leadership and the organising team as preparations continue for the 2026 celebration.
The courtesy visit provided an opportunity for the committee to formally brief the Yang di-Pertua Negeri and Toh Puan on the upcoming programme while delivering the official invitation for their attendance.
Tun Pehin Sri also expressed hope that the National Day celebration would further strengthen the spirit of togetherness among Sarawakians.
He said the celebration should continue to promote unity and encourage a strong sense of love for Sarawak and the country among people from different racial backgrounds.
The 2026 celebration will therefore bring together state leaders, organisers and communities through a series of activities centred on national pride, unity and community participation.
With Kapit Division serving as this year’s host, preparations by the organising committee are focused on ensuring that the scheduled events are carried out successfully.
The participation of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri and Toh Puan as guests of honour is also expected to form an important part of the official programme.
The courtesy visit concluded with the committee’s formal engagement with the state leadership as preparations continue towards the 2026 Sarawak National Day Celebration.
The event reflects the continued cooperation between the state administration and the organising committee in preparing for the state-level celebration and its associated activities.
