SIBU – Firefighters from the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station responded to a special service call involving a snake at Lorong 2H Amber, Sublot 55, Sibu Jaya, on Sunday, 9 August 2026.
The incident was reported as a snake-catching operation after a resident discovered a snake near the rear of the house.
Upon arriving at the location, the responding team carried out an assessment of the area and identified the snake as a spitting cobra.
The snake was found underneath a pile of mats placed behind the complainant’s house, according to the operation report.
The incident was classified as a special service operation involving the removal and relocation of the snake from the residential area.
The response was led by PBK I Badrulhisam, who served as the operations commander for the mission.
The team travelled to the location using an LFRT Mercedes Atego fire appliance bearing registration number BJU 6191.
A total of five firefighters were involved in the field response, while PBB Caesar Bantin was assigned to the control room.
The responding personnel included PBK I Badrulhisam as supervisor, PBK II (TBK I) Mazlan as driver, PB Jerry, PBB Wan Nur Asraf, PBB Ammar Asraf and PBB Ralph.
The fire station was approximately 2km from the incident location, allowing the team to reach the area and begin the operation.
Following the initial assessment, the operations commander instructed the firefighters to put on full personal protective equipment before attempting to handle the snake.
The team used specialised equipment, including a snake clipper and snake drawer, to safely capture the animal.
The firefighters proceeded carefully because the snake had been identified as a spitting cobra and was located close to a residential property.
After the snake was successfully captured, the team removed it from the immediate residential area.
The operation report stated that the snake was subsequently released into its original habitat at a location far away from the residential area.
This allowed the firefighters to complete the removal operation without leaving the snake within the vicinity of the complainant’s house.
Once the situation had been assessed as completely safe, the responding firefighters prepared to leave the scene.
The fire appliance and personnel then returned to the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station after completing the operation.
During the return journey, the team released the captured snake in an area located far from the reported residential location, in accordance with the operation report.
The incident was handled by the Charlie Team from the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station.
The response demonstrated the use of specialised equipment and protective gear when dealing with a potentially dangerous snake found near a residential property.
The operation was completed after the snake had been safely captured and relocated away from the residential area.
