LUNDU – A forest fire near the Kampung Stunggang Melayu garbage disposal site in Lundu was brought under control by firefighters on Saturday, 8 August 2026.
The Lundu Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 2.55 pm regarding the fire. Firefighters travelled approximately 11 kilometres from the station to reach the location of the incident.
Upon arrival, the team found that a section of forested area had been affected by the fire. The affected area was estimated to be about one acre.
Firefighters immediately began efforts to contain and extinguish the blaze to prevent it from spreading further. A 300-foot hose was extended to carry out firefighting operations at the scene.
A water source nozzle connected to the firefighting machinery’s tank was also used to support the operation.
However, the location presented an additional challenge as there was no available water source at the scene of the fire. As a result, the CFRT machinery had to be refilled with water from a nearby fire hydrant.
The hydrant was located near a housing area and was used to replenish the water supply needed for the firefighting operation.
Firefighters continued their efforts until the affected area was brought under control.
The team then conducted checks to ensure that the fire had been completely extinguished and that there were no remaining signs of the blaze requiring further action.
After confirming that the situation was safe and under control, the Fire and Rescue Department personnel concluded the operation. The team subsequently left the scene and returned to the Lundu Fire and Rescue Station.

The incident highlights the challenges faced by firefighters when dealing with fires in areas without an immediate water supply.
