Sarawak’s Progress Recognised: Premier Honoured with MIP Award

BETONG, Jan 25 — Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has described the Honorary Fellow recognition by the Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP) as a testament to Sarawak’s effective governance and ambitious future plans.

Receiving the accolade from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the MIP 2024 Planning Excellence Awards Ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 24, Abang Johari emphasised that the award celebrates Sarawak’s collective achievements rather than individual accomplishments.

“This is a recognition of Sarawak’s rapid development and reflects our efforts in urban planning, economic strategies, renewable energy initiatives, and our vision under the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he said during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Betong Zone Delegates Meeting on Saturday.

The MIP acknowledged Sarawak for exceeding its high-income target by achieving this status in 2022, seven years ahead of the original 2030 goal. The Premier credited this success to the dedication and collaboration of the Sarawak government and PBB.

“The medal I received is not mine alone but a recognition for PBB and the people of Sarawak,” he said.

Abang Johari’s leadership in urban development, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability were among the key reasons for his selection as an MIP Honorary Fellow. His efforts to position Sarawak as a global player through transformative initiatives aligned with PCDS 2030 were highly commended.

Additionally, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development was awarded the MIP President’s Award for its pioneering Sarawak Electronic State Planning Authority System, which digitally revolutionised state planning governance.

The award was received by State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh, and Permanent Secretary Datuk Abdullah Julaihi.
