PADAWAN, Jan 28 – The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is urging residents to cooperate with waste management efforts as continuous rainfall disrupts rubbish collection and disposal services. MPP chairman Tan Kai emphasized the importance of collective responsibility to ensure a safe and clean environment during the Chinese New Year celebrations.
In a statement released today, Tan Kai highlighted the challenges faced by the council due to heavy rains. During his inspection of the roll-on roll-off (RoRo) bins provided for festive waste disposal, he observed that rainwater had accumulated inside the bins, reducing their capacity to hold rubbish effectively. The wet weather has also slowed down waste collection services, causing temporary delays in clearing rubbish.
“Despite our efforts to provide adequate waste disposal facilities, some residents have been found discarding rubbish outside the bins instead of using them properly. This exacerbates the problem, especially during this rainy season,” Tan Kai explained.
He assured residents that the council is taking proactive steps to address the issue. MPP officers have been instructed to prioritize full bins to ensure prompt rubbish collection and minimize inconvenience. However, residents are urged to play their part by disposing of waste responsibly and cooperating with collection schedules.
Tan Kai also issued warnings to scavengers seen rummaging through waste bins, reminding them that such activities could pose health risks and hinder waste management efforts.
“Cleanliness is a shared responsibility. While the council provides services and facilities, the community must use them responsibly. Together, we can ensure a clean and welcoming Padawan for all during this festive season,” he said.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated on rubbish collection schedules and report any issues to MPP for immediate action.
