Sibu Jaya Firefighters Remove Snake From Residential Cat Cage

SIBU JAYA – Emergency responders successfully extracted a sizeable reptile from an unusual location at a residential property in Sibu Jaya on Saturday morning. Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia were dispatched to handle the special service call involving animal welfare and public safety concerns at a home along Lorong 1C.

The incident occurred at No 5E Lorong 1C Sibu Jaya within the 96000 postal district. A Mitsubishi Triton utility vehicle, bearing registration VGR 9844, transported the response team to the scene. The crew covered a distance of approximately two kilometres from their station to reach the complainant’s residence.

PB Jerry served as both driver and supervisor for this particular operation. He was accompanied by team members PB Caesar Bantin and PBB Ammar Asraf during the deployment. PBB Wan Nur Asraf managed communications and coordination duties from the control room throughout the emergency response period.

Upon reaching the designated address, the operation commander conducted a thorough size-up assessment of the situation. This initial evaluation revealed that a snake measuring roughly five feet in length had become trapped inside the resident’s cat cage. The presence of the reptile in such close proximity to a domestic pet created an urgent need for professional intervention.

Safety protocols were immediately implemented before any physical contact was attempted with the animal. The operation commander directed all participating members to don full personal protective equipment prior to commencing the extraction process. This precautionary measure ensured that personnel remained protected against potential bites or defensive strikes during the delicate removal procedure.

Specialised tools were employed to secure the creature without causing harm to either the responders or the animal itself. Team members utilised a snake clipper and snake drawer apparatus to carefully manoeuvre the reptile out of its confined space within the cage structure. These instruments are standard issue for wildlife-related emergencies and allow for controlled handling at a safe distance.

Following the successful capture, the team transported the snake away from the residential area for release. The reptile was returned to its natural habitat in a location situated far from human population centres. This practice aligns with established wildlife management guidelines that prioritise both community safety and environmental conservation efforts.

Before departing the premises, responders conducted a final verification to confirm that no further hazards remained at the property. Once satisfied that conditions were completely safe for the residents and their pets, the reporting officer and team members returned to base.
