AADK Destroys Drug Den in Sungai Asap, Belaga to Curb Rural Trafficking

SIBU, April 27 — The Sarawak National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) successfully wiped out a secret drug trafficking hideout deep in the interior of Sungai Asap, Belaga during a major operation, Operation Perdana/Bersepadu, held recently.

According to Mohamed Izuan Abdul Rahman, Sarawak AADK’s Enforcement and Security Assistant Director, the two-day operation, which was also supported by the Kapit Division Immigration Department, took place last Thursday and Friday.

During the first day’s raid at about 11.30am, two men — believed to be a local and a foreigner acting as guards — managed to flee upon noticing the presence of enforcement officers.

Intelligence gathered by AADK revealed that the hut, known locally as “Port Bukit,” served as a hub for drug sales and distribution to addicts living in and around Sungai Asap. Built far away from residential areas, the hut was hidden in tough, hilly terrain with winding roads, making access difficult for authorities and civilians.

Officers found a cooking stove inside the hut, indicating that it was also used as a living space for overnight stays, aside from being a drug transaction site.

To completely shut down its operations, the hut was burned and destroyed during the operation. Mohamed Izuan said this action was necessary to prevent the site from being used again, especially because many of the drug customers were local youths.

“This shows that drug problems are no longer only in cities. They have already spread into rural areas like Sungai Asap,” he warned.

Mohamed Izuan also urged the local community to stay vigilant and work with authorities by sharing any information related to drug activities.

“Be aware and protect your own community. Today, our children may be safe, but tomorrow could be different. Act now to save the next generation from the filth of drugs,” he said.
