MOSCOW – His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, has concluded his special visit to Moscow and departed for Malaysia following an invitation from the Russian Federation to attend the Victory Day anniversary celebrations.
His Majesty arrived in Moscow on 6 May at the personal invitation of President Vladimir Putin, who extended the honour for Sultan Ibrahim to participate as a guest of honour in the commemorations held on 9 May.
The invitation was seen as a mark of high regard and recognition of Malaysia’s standing by the Russian government.
The Victory Day celebrations, which commemorate the Soviet Union’s victory in the Second World War, are among Russia’s most significant national events.
Sultan Ibrahim’s presence underscored the importance of Malaysia-Russia relations, which continue to grow steadily as both nations prepare to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2027.
During his stay, His Majesty engaged in several high-level meetings and ceremonial events, reinforcing the cordial relationship between Malaysia and Russia.
His participation highlighted Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and fostering international cooperation.
On 10 May, Sultan Ibrahim’s private aircraft departed from Vnukovo-2 International Airport in Moscow at 3.30pm local time, concluding the visit.
His departure followed a series of engagements that reflected the warm hospitality extended by the Russian government throughout the trip.
Observers note that the invitation to attend Victory Day celebrations was a symbolic gesture, reflecting Russia’s recognition of Malaysia as a valued partner.
The visit is expected to contribute to further collaboration in areas such as trade, education, and cultural exchange, while also reinforcing Malaysia’s role in global diplomacy.
The special visit comes at a time when Malaysia and Russia are working to deepen their relationship, with both nations expressing aspirations to elevate cooperation to new levels.
