APM Bau Monitors Flood-Prone Areas, Situation Under Control

BAU – Authorities have stepped up monitoring efforts in several flood-prone locations across the district as part of ongoing precautionary measures following recent weather conditions.

Personnel from Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (APM) Bau carried out inspections on 20 February to assess the situation in areas identified as vulnerable to rising water levels. The operation focused on ensuring the safety of residents and keeping track of any changes in environmental conditions.

According to officials, the overall situation remains under control, with only low-lying areas experiencing minor flooding. No major evacuations have been reported, and authorities continue to observe developments closely.

Among the locations placed under surveillance were Kampung Suba Buan and Kampung Apar along Jalan Tondong, both known to be susceptible to water accumulation during periods of sustained rainfall. Monitoring teams assessed drainage systems, river levels and surrounding terrain to identify any potential risks.

Flooding in rural districts such as Bau is often linked to heavy rainfall combined with limited drainage capacity in certain areas. Local authorities typically implement early monitoring to mitigate risks and provide timely warnings to residents.

APM Bau has advised communities in affected and nearby areas to remain alert, particularly by keeping an eye on water levels in rivers and roadside drains. Residents are also encouraged to prepare for possible changes in weather conditions and to take necessary precautions to safeguard their homes and belongings.

Officials stressed the importance of community cooperation, noting that early reporting of rising water levels or unusual conditions can significantly assist response teams in managing potential emergencies more effectively.

While the current situation does not pose an immediate threat, authorities have reiterated that monitoring will continue as a preventive measure. Weather patterns in the region can shift quickly, and continued vigilance is essential to avoid unexpected incidents.

Members of the public requiring assistance or facing emergencies have been urged to contact APM Bau via its hotline or dial the national emergency number for immediate support.
